When you are new to internet marketing you are often told to get yourself a mentor or coach. Being able to talk to someone who has 'been there and done that' when you need help or guidance is a big advantage. While everyone understands the importance of having a mentor there are not many coaching training programs that teach you how to be a mentor or coach.

If you are involved in any kind of internet marketing, such as multi-level marketing, that involves having a team then you basically have the role of coach thrust upon you. If your income is partially dependent on the productivity of your team the difference between you being a good coach or a poor one can have a significant effect on how much money you earn.

Relationships

Establishing a good relationship with your trainee is at the root of | base for} everything else. Communication

Even if you get on well with your trainee, and are reasonably knowledgeable (or have access to good training) about internet marketing, not being able to communicate ideas effectively will cause problems. This covers two areas, firstly the simple methods of communication, email, IM, social networking, telephone, voip etc and secondly the style. Good coaching training programs should help you learn how to communicate complicated ideas simply but without seeming to be patronizing.

Motivation

One of the most important roles of a mentor is to provide motivation. Usually with internet marketing there can be a long time before the trainee sees the results of the time and effort put in, it is during this period that a large number of people 'give-up'. While the failure of internet marketing businesses is quite high it is to your financial advantage to keep it as low as possible. Learning how to motivate your team is a big part of its success.



So if you are going to be involved with making your own team, or even if you simply recommended a friend to the business, you will have to pick up the role of coach even if it is a role you don't really want.
